Clay Matthews says 'cheap shot' by Eagles' Allen Barbre to blame for shoulder
injury
The Green Bay Packers linebacker was injured in Monday night's 27-13 win when
Eagles right tackle Allen Barbre delivered a blindside block on an end-around in
the first quarter. The reason why Clay Matthews was forced to move to inside
linebacker against the Eagles is injuries to starters Blake Martinez and Jake
Ryan. He wasn't happy being on the receiving end of a blindside block by the
Eagles' Allen Barbre because that caused a separated AC joint in his left
shoulder. The blindside block landed on Matthews’s left shoulder. In order to
return to the game he took a pain-killing injection. Afterwards, Matthews said
he wasn't sure if it was a legal block by Barbre and it was a cheap shot.
Barbre, via the Delaware New Journal to express that he didn’t care what
Matthews said, because everyone's got their own opinion and at that time he just
want to win. In the third quarter against the Eagles, quarterback Aaron Rodgers
pulled his left hamstring and his mobility was limited after trainers taped his
leg. However, in earlier Wednesday, coach Mike McCarthy expressed confidence
that both Matthews and quarterback Aaron Rodgers would play against the Texans.
